I’ve been looking for a new simulation game for a long time. I especially love farm and livestock games, so I finally got the chance to try Rancher: A new life, which launched on August 6. If you’re playing Campaign mode, this guide should save you from spending ages searching for the screwdriver. The game is in Early Access, so I’ll add more content from time to time – but the main guides will come once the full version releases.
In the second campaign quest, you have to fix a fault on the electrical panel. Guess what’s missing? Yep – a screwdriver.
The screwdriver is in the trunk of the car you arrive in when you leave your job and start this new adventure at the run-down farmhouse. You order the broken cable through the Shop app on your tablet. If you progress through the campaign, you can’t buy a screwdriver yet – you must take the one from the car’s trunk first. After that, the lock unlocks, and when you need another one later, you can buy it from the Shop app.
In short, the game follows a white-collar worker who gets tired of office life and city noise, puts everything into a broken-down farmhouse, and rebuilds it for a quieter life. With how far AI has come, stories like this are showing up in real life more and more too. You order materials, renovate the old house, restore your energy with coffee and food, feed the animals, and build a whole new life for yourself.
I’d call it a mix of Ranch Simulator and Farmer’s Dynasty. My first hour felt enjoyable. I’ll keep playing now and then, and when the full release drops, I’ll share all the tips and guides on the site.
